Sendmail-5.65c+IDA-1.4.4 Binarys for AT&T 3B1 Take a look at the "LS-L" file to find out where the other files go and what the permissions should be. Don't forget to make the /usr/spool/mqueue directory. /usr/lib/sendmail is linked to /usr/lib/mailq which is linked to /usr/lib/newaliases which is linked to /usr/bin/bsmtp. "dbm" and "freeze" don't have to be in /usr/lbin, they can be anywhere you want them to be. Remember, if you put "dbm" someplace else, make sure you change "freeze". /bin/lmail - the /bin/mail that came with the 3.51 Foundation Set. /bin/mail - the svbinmail that came with smail-2.5... it was compiled with SENDMAIL defined. /bin/rmail - the "rmail" that came with sendmail-5.65c package. /usr/bin/mailx - a special mailx for use with sendmail. Modify /etc/syslog.conf as per it's instructions (I've included some examples). Put this line near the end of /etc/rc (and also execute it manually): /etc/syslogd -m 60; sleep 5 Modify /usr/lib/aliases as needed. Modify /usr/lib/mailtable as needed (I've included some examples). Modify /usr/lib/sendmail.cf as follows: change all "MY_MACHINE" to the name of your machine (ex. das13) change all "MY_DOMAIN" to the name of your domain (ex. snide.com) change the "SMART_HOST" to the machine name of your smart host (ex. dsinc) If you prefer to use Chip Salzberg's "deliver" program for local delivery, edit the sendmail.cf file, locate the line(s) that begin with "Mlocal", and swap the comment marks. Now run "freeze"... this will freeze the configuration file and build the dbm databases for your alias and mailtable files. You're all set!! If you use elm, you may want to re-run Configure so that elm calls sendmail directly rather than smail (which you should remove). Thanks go to Paul Pomes for doing a wonderful job on making sendmail so easily portable to the so many platforms (including the 3B1). Special thanks to Neil Rickert for making the creating and maintaining of sendmail.cf files so unbelievably easy. Special thanks also goes to John F. Haugh II for his endless work on the syslog routines and the syslogd executable. What I have provided here is a basic configuration for running sendmail-5.65c. You would be crazy not to get the source from you favorite archive site. Included with the source is documentation, man pages, and tons of examples. By getting the source, you'll also see that I've only scratched the surface of Sendmail-5.65c's capabilities. Enjoy !!! DAS -- David A.
